Our most recently completed commission, and the first from timber grown at FlatWood; an ebonised welsh oak bench with hot forged 5/8 copper rivets (forged using our own charcoal) and silicon-bronze washers. These are made from green quarter-sawn welsh oak grown at FlatWood, we pick a high quality timber butt and cleave it to reduce stress, this enables us to control the drying and reduce the natural movement of the oak to give a lovely subtle texture. The 5/8 copper rivets hold the 2” thick planks firmly, but again allow movement. These benches can then be dyed using tannic acid produced by reacting ferrous filings from our tool making with cider vinegar, or left nude to weather naturally. Suitable for indoor, or outdoor use.
